The twist with social media is that it doesn’t matter as much which people (or how many) you know, it’s who (and how many) will publicly connect with you and claim you in their network. How many people like your Facebook page? How many friends do you have on Facebook? How many followers do you have on Twitter and LinkedIn? How many connections on your LinkedIn account? Are your LinkedIn connections influential in my business or social circles?
These are the new questions that social media brings up. How you answer these questions varies depending on the social media network, but they involve you actively building your networks online. Connecting with people on social media. Reaching out and following and friending people. Being proactive in building your network.
The questions all get answered one way or the other. If you have done nothing to build your online networks you may not like what the answers are. It’s up to you.
