The Fitness Indistry has its own January Effect where all the New Year’s resolutioners crowd gyms for the first 2-3 weeks of the year.
We’re talking about a different January Effect. The one where an agency principal sits down with their staff and plans out their sales and marketing activities for the year. The plan is developed, laid out and everyone is excited about it, but then, just like those gym memberships, things start to get pushed to the side.
The reasons for the sudden halt may vary – there’s a crisis with a big client’s account, one of your carriers takes a huge rate increase, you lose a staff person and everyone has to help cover their duties. The possible distractions are endless.
Next thing you know it’s June or July and that exquisitly crafted marketing plan sits unused on a shelf. You glance at it guiltily the same way you look at that gym membership card. “I’ll get to you next week”, you tell yourself. Before long it’s October and its too late. Time to start planning for next year…
